Bone health
Strong bones are built over a lifetime, and it's never too late to support them. Calcium gets most of the attention, but bones also rely on vitamin D, magnesium, vitamin K, protein and regular movement.
Bone-friendly habits:
- Eat calcium-rich foods like leafy greens, sardines with bones, tahini, almonds and yogurt
- Get some safe sun, and ask your practitioner about checking your vitamin D level
- Include protein at each meal
- Do weight-bearing exercise, like walking, dancing or strength training, a few times a week
Try this: add a handful of greens and a sprinkle of sesame seeds to tonight's dinner. If you take a blood thinner, check with your doctor before changing how many leafy greens you eat, since they're rich in vitamin K.
