Castor oil

Castor oil packs are an old-fashioned home remedy I still love. A cloth soaked in castor oil rests on your skin, usually over the belly, with gentle warmth on top. Many people find it a relaxing ritual, and it's traditionally used for digestive comfort. Research is limited, so think of it as soothing self-care.

How to make one:

  • Soak a piece of wool or cotton flannel in castor oil until damp, not dripping
  • Lay it over your belly and cover with plastic wrap or an old towel
  • Add a warm (not hot) water bottle and rest for 30 to 45 minutes
  • Wipe your skin clean afterward

Use it on the outside only, never on broken skin. Skip it during pregnancy, and check with your doctor or practitioner if you're unsure.
