Cayenne guacamole
Prep time: 10 minutes. A pinch of cayenne gives classic guacamole a gentle kick. Avocados are a good source of fiber and monounsaturated fat (the same kind found in olive oil), and cayenne gets its heat from capsaicin, the compound that makes chili peppers spicy.
Ingredients:
- 2 ripe avocados
- 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
- 1 small tomato, diced
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped red onion
- 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
- 1 small garlic clove, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Preparation:
- Halve and pit the avocados, scoop them into a bowl and mash with the lime juice.
- Stir in the tomato, onion, cilantro, garlic and salt.
- Add the cayenne a pinch at a time, tasting as you go.
- Serve with sliced cucumber, bell peppers or jicama, or spoon over eggs or tacos.
