Chew more, digest better
Digestion starts in your mouth, not your stomach. Chewing breaks food into smaller pieces and mixes it with saliva, which contains enzymes that begin breaking down starches. The more work your teeth do, the less your stomach has to.
Slowing down has another perk: it gives your body time to register fullness, which can take around 20 minutes. Many of my clients notice less bloating once they simply chew more and rush less.
A few ways to practice:
- Chew each bite until it's soft and almost liquid
- Pause between bites to taste your food
- Make one meal a day screen-free
Try this: really chew the first five bites of every meal today. It's a small habit that adds up.
- digestion
- gut health
- self-care
