Cook with someone you love

Some of my favorite memories happened in a kitchen. Cooking with a partner, a friend or your kids turns a chore into time together, and a meal you made side by side somehow tastes better.

It also takes the pressure off. One person chops while the other stirs, and dinner comes together faster than you'd think. Little ones can rinse produce, tear lettuce or measure spices; teens can own a whole dish.

Try this: invite someone into the kitchen this week. Choose one simple recipe, put on music you both like and divide the jobs. Notice the conversation that happens when hands are busy and screens are away.
