Family meals

Gathering around the table is one of the simplest health habits there is. Research links regular family meals with better nutrition for kids and teens, including more fruits and vegetables, and the benefits seem to come as much from the connection as from the food.

It doesn't have to be dinner, and it doesn't have to be fancy. Saturday breakfast counts. Takeout on real plates counts. "Family" can mean roommates, a partner or a friend.

This week, choose two meals to share at the table. Set out plates, turn off the TV and give everyone one question to answer, like "What was the best part of your day?"
