Food as medicine
Hippocrates is often credited with saying, "Let food be thy medicine." Food isn't a replacement for medical care, but what you eat every day is one of the most powerful tools you have for how you feel. Research links diets rich in vegetables, fruit, beans, whole grains, nuts and olive oil with healthier aging and a lower risk of many chronic conditions.
In my practice, I think of every meal as a chance to nourish:
- Color for antioxidants
- Fiber to feed your gut bacteria
- Protein to keep you steady
- Healthy fats for your brain and hormones
Try this: look at your next plate and ask, "What is this giving me?" Then add one thing, like a handful of greens or a sprinkle of seeds.
- antioxidants
- fiber
- gut health
