Golden milk
Golden milk is a warm, spiced drink rooted in Ayurveda, India's traditional system of medicine, and a mug of it is one of my favorite evening rituals. Curcumin, the main compound in turmeric, has been studied for its role in a healthy inflammation response, and a pinch of black pepper may help your body absorb more of it.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup unsweetened almond, coconut or dairy milk
- 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- Pinch of black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon coconut oil (optional)
- 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup, to taste
Preparation:
- Whisk everything except the honey in a small saucepan.
- Warm over medium-low heat until steaming, about 5 minutes, without letting it boil.
- Pour into a mug and stir in the honey.
If you take blood thinners or other medication, check with your doctor or practitioner before making turmeric a daily habit.
