Gut testing with the GI-MAP
The GI-MAP is a stool test that uses DNA-based technology to take a detailed look at your gut. You collect a small sample at home and mail it to the lab.
It looks at:
- Beneficial bacteria and the overall balance of your microbiome
- Potential troublemakers, such as H. pylori, parasites, yeast and harmful bacteria
- Markers of digestion, like how well your pancreas is helping break down fats
- Markers related to inflammation and immune activity in the gut lining
A functional nutritionist uses it to explore what might be contributing to symptoms like bloating, constipation or loose stools, and to tailor a food and lifestyle plan. Results aren't a diagnosis on their own; they're interpreted alongside your symptoms, history and any testing from your doctor. This is one of the tests I use with clients.
