Healthy "soda"
A 12-ounce can of regular soda has about 39 grams of sugar, nearly 10 teaspoons. When clients miss the fizz, I suggest this homemade version: all the bubbles, a fraction of the sugar and no artificial colors.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup sparkling mineral water, chilled
- 2 tablespoons 100% fruit juice (tart cherry, pomegranate or orange)
- Squeeze of fresh lime or lemon
- A few fresh mint leaves or berries
- Ice
Preparation:
- Gently muddle the mint or berries in the bottom of a glass.
- Add the juice, citrus and ice.
- Top with sparkling water and stir gently.
- Over time, try using a little less juice; your taste buds adapt faster than you'd think.
- sugar
- sugar cravings
- kids
