Hemp seeds

Hemp seeds, often sold shelled as "hemp hearts," are small, soft and mildly nutty, with no prep needed. About 3 tablespoons give you roughly 10 grams of plant protein, and it's a complete protein, meaning it contains all nine essential amino acids. They're also a good source of magnesium and offer both omega-3 and omega-6 fats.

And no, they won't get you high. Food-grade hemp seeds contain only trace amounts of THC.

Easy ways to use them:

  • Sprinkle on oatmeal, yogurt or salads
  • Blend into smoothies for extra creaminess
  • Stir into pesto or energy bites
  • Mix with breadcrumbs to coat fish or chicken

Try this: keep a jar in the fridge, which protects their delicate oils, and add a spoonful to breakfast.
