Holy basil (tulsi)

Holy basil, or tulsi, is a cousin of the basil in your kitchen and has been treasured for thousands of years in Ayurveda, India's traditional system of medicine. It's considered an adaptogen, an herb thought to help the body adapt to stress. Early research suggests tulsi may support a calmer stress response and healthy blood sugar, though more studies are needed.

The gentlest way to enjoy it is as a tea. Its flavor is warm and slightly peppery, with hints of clove.

Try this: steep 1 teaspoon of dried tulsi (or a tea bag) in hot water for 5 minutes and sip it in the late afternoon as a wind-down ritual. As with any herb, check with your doctor or practitioner first, especially if you're pregnant, trying to conceive or taking medication.
