Homemade herbal tea

Making your own herbal tea is simple, soothing and a lovely way to use fresh herbs from the garden or market. Covering the cup while it steeps keeps the fragrant oils in your tea instead of in the air.

  • Use about 1 tablespoon of dried herbs or 2–3 tablespoons of fresh herbs per cup of water.
  • Pour just-boiled water over the herbs, cover, and steep 5–10 minutes. Strain and enjoy.

A few blends to try:

  • Mint and lemon balm, refreshing after a meal
  • Chamomile and lavender, for a calm evening
  • Fresh ginger slices with lemon peel, warming on a cold day
  • Cinnamon stick and orange peel, naturally sweet

Herbs can interact with some medications, and some aren't recommended during pregnancy, so check with your doctor or practitioner if either applies to you.
