Juicing

Fresh juice can be a delicious way to get more vegetables into your day. I tell my clients to think of it as a bonus, not a replacement for whole fruits and vegetables, since juicing removes most of the fiber.

  • Go mostly veggie: about 80% vegetables, 20% fruit. Without the fiber, fruit-heavy juice can raise blood sugar quickly.
  • Enjoy it with a meal or alongside some protein.
  • Drink it fresh, or keep it in a full, sealed glass jar in the fridge for up to a day.

If you take a blood thinner, check with your doctor before drinking a lot of green juice, since leafy greens are rich in vitamin K.

Try this starter green juice: 1 cucumber, 3 celery stalks, a handful of spinach, 1/2 green apple, 1/2 peeled lemon and a thumb of ginger.
