Lucuma powder

Lucuma is a fruit from Peru with sweet, golden flesh and a flavor often compared to caramel or maple. It's usually sold as a dried powder, and a spoonful adds gentle sweetness with far less sugar than a spoonful of table sugar. Lucuma also offers some fiber and plant compounds like polyphenols and carotenoids, the same family of pigments that gives carrots their color.

It's not a magic ingredient, just a lovely way to sweeten things more gently:

  • Blend 1 tablespoon into a smoothie with banana and almond milk
  • Stir into oatmeal or chia pudding
  • Add to energy bites or homemade granola
  • Whisk into warm milk with cinnamon

Try this: replace half the sugar in your next batch of muffins with lucuma powder.
