Magnesium

Magnesium is a mineral involved in more than 300 processes in your body, from muscle relaxation and nerve signals to energy production and blood sugar balance. Surveys suggest many adults don't get enough from food, and alcohol and some medications can lower levels further.

I always start with the plate. Great sources include:

  • Pumpkin seeds (1/4 cup covers a good share of your day)
  • Spinach and Swiss chard
  • Almonds and cashews
  • Black beans
  • Avocado
  • Dark chocolate, 70% or higher

If you're curious about a supplement, forms like magnesium glycinate are often gentler on digestion, but check with your doctor or practitioner first, especially if you have kidney concerns or take medication.

Try this: sprinkle pumpkin seeds on tonight's salad.
