No jewelry: simplicity and macrobiotics

Macrobiotics, a whole-foods philosophy with roots in Japan, values simplicity and balance in everything, from the plate to the closet. Some macrobiotic teachers even suggest going without jewelry, especially metal, as part of keeping life uncomplicated. There's little research behind that particular idea, but I love the spirit of it.

Taking off rings, a watch or earrings at the end of the day can become a small ritual that tells you it's time to unwind. Less to wear, less to think about.

Try this: when you get home tonight, place your jewelry in a dish by the door and notice how it feels to leave the day there with it.
