Put your fork down between bites

Most of us eat faster than we realize. Fullness signals from your gut can take 20 minutes or so to reach your brain, so a meal eaten in five minutes rarely leaves you feeling satisfied. Slowing down also gives you time to chew well, which is where digestion begins.

Here's the simplest tool I know: put your fork down between bites. Chew, swallow, take a breath, then pick it up again.

Try it at your next meal. It will feel awkward at first, and that's a sign you're shifting an old habit. Notice the flavors you were missing, and check in halfway through: are you still hungry?
