Self-care: hot towel scrub with lavender

The hot towel scrub is a simple ritual from macrobiotic tradition. Rubbing your skin with a hot, damp cloth gets circulation moving and leaves skin soft and glowing, and lavender adds a spa-like calm.

Try it tonight before bed:

  • Fill a sink with hot (not scalding) water and add a handful of dried lavender buds.
  • Dip a cotton washcloth and wring it out.
  • Scrub one area at a time, from your hands up your arms, then shoulders, back, legs and feet, re-dipping as it cools.

Prefer lavender essential oil? Mix 2 drops into a teaspoon of olive or jojoba oil and smooth it on afterward. Check with your doctor or practitioner first, especially if you're pregnant.
