The state of health in the US

According to the CDC, about 6 in 10 American adults live with at least one chronic condition, like heart disease or type 2 diabetes, and 4 in 10 live with two or more. Many of these conditions are linked with everyday factors: what we eat, how much we move, how we sleep and how we handle stress.

Research also suggests that ultra-processed foods make up more than half of the calories in the typical American diet. That's not about blame. Busy schedules, food costs and convenience all shape our choices.

The hopeful part is that small, steady changes add up. Try this: pick one habit for this week, such as adding a vegetable to lunch, taking a 10-minute walk after dinner or cooking one more meal at home. Then build from there.
