Strawberries
Strawberries are sweet, juicy and one of the easiest ways to add vitamin C to your day: one cup of sliced berries provides about a full day's worth. They also bring fiber, folate, manganese and anthocyanins, the plant pigments behind their bright red color, which act as antioxidants.
Their fiber helps slow the release of their natural sugars, so strawberries are a lovely choice when you want something sweet.
Strawberries often top the Dirty Dozen list for pesticide residue, so buy organic when you can, especially in peak season when they're also at their most flavorful. Try this: toss sliced strawberries into a spinach salad with toasted almonds and a splash of balsamic vinegar, or freeze ripe ones for smoothies.
