The DUTCH hormone test

DUTCH stands for Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones. Instead of a single blood draw, you collect a few urine samples on filter strips at home over the course of a day, let them dry and mail them in.

It looks at:

  • Sex hormones like estrogen, progesterone and testosterone
  • How your body breaks down estrogen, through its metabolites
  • Your cortisol pattern from morning to night, which reflects your stress response
  • Melatonin, the hormone that helps you sleep

That fuller picture helps a functional nutritionist understand patterns behind energy dips, sleep troubles or cycle changes. Your cycle timing and any hormones or supplements you take can affect results, so findings are interpreted alongside your history and your doctor's care, never as a diagnosis on their own. This is one of the tests I use with clients.
