The organic acids test
The organic acids test, often called the OAT, is a urine test you collect at home, usually first thing in the morning. It measures organic acids, the byproducts your body makes as it turns food into energy and carries out its everyday chemistry. Because these compounds come from specific pathways, their levels can offer clues about what's happening inside.
A typical OAT looks at markers related to:
- Energy production in your cells
- B vitamins and other nutrient needs
- Neurotransmitters, the brain's chemical messengers
- Byproducts of yeast and bacteria in the gut
- Oxalates and antioxidant status
It's a single snapshot, and diet, supplements and timing can all affect results, so findings are interpreted alongside your history and symptoms, never as a diagnosis on their own. This is one of the tests I use with clients.
- lab tests
- metabolism
- gut health
