What are superfoods?
“Superfood” is a marketing term, not a scientific one. It usually describes a food that packs a lot of nutrients, like vitamins, minerals, fiber or antioxidants, into each bite.
Exotic powders and berries from faraway places can be wonderful, but some of the most nutrient-dense foods are already at your grocery store:
- Leafy greens like kale, spinach and collards
- Blueberries and other deeply colored berries
- Beans and lentils
- Eggs
- Sardines and salmon
- Cabbage, broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables
- Oats, nuts and seeds
I remind my clients that no single food can make up for the rest of a diet. Variety matters most, so your body gets a wide range of nutrients. Try this: add one new colorful food to your cart this week.
- antioxidants
- greens
- beans
