Where does your food come from?

Most of us know very little about the journey our food takes before it reaches our plates. Knowing where it comes from helps you choose fresher food, support farmers in your area and feel more connected to what you eat.

A few ways to get closer to the source:

  • Shop a farmers market and ask how things are grown
  • Join a CSA (community supported agriculture), where you receive a weekly box of produce from a local farm
  • Check labels and signs for country of origin
  • Grow something, even a pot of basil on a windowsill

I love how a conversation with the person who grew your tomatoes changes the way they taste. Try this: this week, buy one thing from a local grower and ask them about it.

Healthy Bits are for general education and aren’t medical advice. Check with your doctor or healthcare provider before making changes, especially if you’re pregnant or nursing, take medication, or are managing a health condition.

A new healthy bit, every day.
