Whole juice vs. pressed
Juice can be a delicious way to drink your veggies, but how it's made matters. Pressed juice separates the liquid from the pulp, so you get a concentrated dose of vitamins and minerals but lose most of the fiber. Without it, fruit sugars reach your bloodstream quickly.
Blending whole fruits and vegetables into a smoothie keeps the fiber, which slows sugar absorption, helps you feel full and feeds your gut bacteria.
Both can have a place:
- Make pressed juices mostly vegetables, like cucumber, celery, greens and lemon, with one piece of fruit at most
- Sip juice alongside a meal or snack with protein
- Choose a smoothie when you want something filling
Try this: blend 1 cup spinach, 1/2 cup frozen berries, 1 tablespoon nut butter and 1 cup unsweetened milk of your choice.
- fiber
- blood sugar
- greens
- raw
